The REFRESH project recently held its Final Symposium on Project Results in Baku, Azerbaijan, marking a significant milestone in the journey toward a greener economy. Coordinated by the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), the event brought together all project partners and representatives from various local institutions to discuss the collective achievements of the consortium.

Key Highlights of Symposium

  • UNEC Leadership & Coordination: Coordinators from UNEC, as the lead applicant and project manager, delivered a central speech addressing the audience. They emphasized the project's success in stimulating local human capital in the renewable energy sector and fostering stable networks between Azerbaijani and European universities.

  • Success Across All Work Packages (WP1–WP7): The symposium presented a common analysis of the achievements across all seven work packages:

    • WP1 (Management): Established effective and efficient consortium management under UNEC's leadership.

    • WP2 (Preparation): Conducted a baseline study that identified critical gaps between industry needs and current academic offerings.

    • WP3 (Development): Launched training of trainers (ToT) programs and updated bachelor’s curricula to align with the Bologna System.

    • WP4 (VLS Labs): Successfully explored EU models to introduce innovative learning tools.

    • WP5 (Dissemination): Reached a wide audience through newsletters, social media, and open-day events.

    • WP6 (Sustainability): Ensured long-term impact through translated textbooks and support for student-led renewable energy start-ups.

    • WP7 (Quality Control): Maintained high standards throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Student Perspectives on VLS Labs: A standout moment featured student volunteers who shared their firsthand experiences with the newly launched Virtual Learning and Simulation (VLS) labs. They discussed how these labs allowed them to conduct experiments that were previously impossible, bridging the gap between theoretical education and practical industry requirements.

  • Discussion on Deliverables: The consortium reviewed the successful completion of all key deliverables, including the Green University Policy Paper and the Green University Guideline. These documents were designed to provide a roadmap for the leadership of universities in Azerbaijan and the wider Eastern Partnership Region to navigate the transition to a green economy.

The symposium concluded with the presentation of the Green Policy Paper, which outlines the future expectations and long-term benefits for partner universities as they continue to lead Azerbaijan’s green transition.
